Meet Jennifer, Jesse, Ayden & Tyee

I knew Jennifer back in high school but lost touch after I graduated. Last year, her oldest son, Ayden, and my son, Tyler, played soccer together, and then they played baseball together last season. I have truly enjoyed getting to know this family over the last year. I really have to give credit to Jennifer - all her boys are quite a handful, but they do make one adorable family.

Now, I know Jennifer has been waiting for these pictures, so without further delay, here is her family.

North Texas Blizzard

Last week, we had what we Texans would consider a blizzard. In just over 24 hours, we had about 10 inches of snow at our house. I've been in Texas for over 20 years and I have never seen anything like this here.

Our dogs had no idea what to make of this white stuff of the ground but three of the puppies did decide to play in it for awhile. The other three dogs..... they stayed warm inside the house.

A few weeks ago, I met up with Jenn, Travis and their two adorable little girls. Jenn & Sarah are very good friends and since they both live in Mineral Wells, we decided to do some family pictures at Clark Gardens. We were lucky to get the wonderful fall colors of the trees while we were out there.

Tyler's First Season of T-Ball

Seeing as how we just had our last game yesterday evening, I'm really late in posting these.

Tyler played his first year of T-ball for the Bombers and he loved every minute of it. Well, maybe not every minute - he found himself very bored while in the outfield and took to playing in the dirt. Now we just have to decide if we're going to soccer or baseball in the Spring......

Meet Scarlett & Cheyenne.

These two have known each since before birth. Their mom's were friends when they were pregnant with the girls. Soon after, one family moved. But as fate would have it, they were reunited again in the 1st grade and have been inseparable since then. Well, as most best friends do, these wonderful girls wanted some pictures of them together and I was happy to help them out.

Miss Cheyenne - Burleson HS Senior

Meet Cheyenne.

Cheyenne will be graduating in 2010 from Burleson High School. In the few short hours that I spent with her, I can tell that she is going to go on to great things. She is gorgeous young woman, both inside and out and she has one killer fashion sense. And she had absolutely no problem acting just like a model during the shoot.

Athen - Baseball

This past Spring, Athen played baseball. Tyler and I were able to make it to some games and after watching Athen play, Tyler decided he wanted to play baseball too. This Fall, Tyler will be playing for the Bombers! As soon as Tyler's games start, I will be posting pictures.

Michelle & TJ: Just 'Cause

Meet Michelle and TJ.
TJ is Sarah's little brother, which pretty much makes him my little brother. I've known him for over 12 years and I've never seen him as happy as he is when he is with Michelle. Michelle is a beautiful young woman and she brings out the best in TJ. These two are so cute and goofy together, you can't help but laugh with them.

Alright, so maybe this session wasn't "just 'cause." TJ is the Army and currently stationed in Korea. While he was home on leave, I talked them into letting me do some pictures of them. Hopefully, you will see the two of them again on here in 5 months and 1 week when he comes back to the US.

Meridith & Jarrett - I Do

Meridith & Jarrett were married last month at a darling wedding chapel in North Richland Hills. I was more than happy to help out when Meridith asked me to help document her day along side her other photographer. Meridith looked gorgeous, as usual. And Jarrett was as smitten as a man could be with his new wife!

A few weeks before the wedding, Jarrett told me "She is the coolest bride EVER!" He continued on to tell me that she was perfectly fine with the guys wearing pin-stripe suits and more importantly, she said OK when he said that the guys should walk into the chapel with the theme from the Godfather playing. I heard a few people sitting behind me say, "I wonder how he got away with that?" My answer to them: because he got a really wonderful woman. Meridith & Jarrett, thank you again for letting me be part of your amazing day!

Die - Bridals

You may remember that my older sister, Die, got married a little bit ago. Die wore a Badgley Mischka wedding dress so she was a little apprehensive about doing bridal pictures before the wedding, at the risk of having something happen to the dress. So, a few weeks after the wedding, we went out and had some fun doing her bridal pictures. Die had three cameras, Kayce and Amanda joined us, on her throughout the entire afternoon and evening and she did an amazing job modeling for us all.

Lily came in from Arkansas a couple of weeks ago and I convinced her to be my model for a few hours. Her only condition was that she got some pictures of her and her dog, CoCo, and Sadie.

This was first time shooting in full Manual Mode on my camera but I was quite happy with the results. I don't know why I was so hesitant to make the change - it was not as hard as I expected it to be. But I digress, on to the pictures!

Since Sadie is not allowed to jump on us, it was rather difficult to get to put her paws on Lily while standing up, so this is what we got

Last weekend, I had the privledge of doing a photoshoot with Phil Hampton. Sarah graciously agreed to be our model for a few hours, and she knew how to work the camera for us. In the few hours that I spent shooting with Phil, I learned a lot of techniques and information - including that he has successfully passed Girly 101 but has since failed Girly 202, but Sarah and I are going to work on a class outline to help him out.

Sarah and I met in 10th grade English class after she saw me crying over a boy. We became instant friends and were inseparable for years. I never thought our friendship would last over a decade, but I am very glad that it did. I am so happy that she found and married the man of her dreams.

Sarah & Jayme were married on the 15th but they wanted some engagement pictures to use for their reception invitations. We got together one Saturday and had some fun running around Old Town Burleson and trying to beat the rain.

This was the last picture we got that day, and it is definitely one of my favorites. I love the blue! Seconds after I took the picture, the skies opened up on us. Thank goodness we weren't too far from the cars.

Tyler's Soccer Games

This Tyler's first year playing soccer and it has been quite an experience. Tyler was given the #5 jersey and he was so happy to be wearing the same number that Athen wears when he plays. Tyler has really enjoyed playing soccer this season and I hope that he continues to want to play soccer in the future.

I don't have any idea what was going on here, and I don't think I want to know. With boys, it's usually easier just to say "Okay" and not ask any questions.

I have wonder how many times he will bite his tongue before he realizes that it's best to keep it in his mouth while he's playing.

Bad Weather Day

Close to the end of January, we had a bad weather day here in Texas. Tyler and I decided to take the day off and not attempt going out on the roads. Tyler, however, did get to ride the gator with Poppa to get the paper. He only got go after he was completely bundled up in his winter gear; complete with a hat and a scarf, both in Denver Broncos colors!

As you can see, Abby turned 10 years old this year. She's finally made it into the double digits! Abby was able to have her party on her actual birthday this year. And it was it a party! The kids were thoroughly worn out after 2 hours of running, climbing and playing on all the bounce houses! But it was a lot of FUN!

Kate & I know each other from work and I was delighted when she asked me to help document her wedding. It's not very often that you get asked to shoot a Scottish wedding. I've never seen so many kilts in one place at one time! Definitely a great experience.

Engaged: Meredith & Jarrett

I actually met Jarrett about 3 years ago sitting outside the Business Building at UTA. Well, over a year ago, he transferred to a different college. Guess who was in his class... no, it wasn't Meredith but actually my wonderful friend, Brooke. Brooke and Jarrett quickly became friends and it wasn't long before Jarrett was asking if she had any single friends. Brooke knew that Jarrett and Meredith would be perfect for each other and she was right! They will be tying the knot in July.

Meredith and Jarrett needed some pictures so that they could submit their announcement to the Star-Telegram, so we met up at the Botantical Gardens one lovely Sunday afternoon. These two are so cute together and let me tell you, their kids are going to have gorgeous eyes!

Africa - Day 11 - Part 2

As soon as we booked the airline tickets for South Africa, someone brought a South Africa tourism book into the office. While flipping through it, a picture of Jacaranda trees caught my eye. Since the book said the trees bloomed in October, I decided I had to have a picture of the purple trees. I had been talking about getting a picture of these trees the entire trip, and on the last day we were able to find a quiet little street that was lined with them. These trees are absolutely gorgeous, and I think this is going to be one of the pictures from this trip that will be framed on my wall.

Africa - Day 11 - Part 1

Day 11 was a last minute sight-seeing, souvenirs shopping day. One of our last stops was an animal reserve just outside of Pretoria.

This was the only Cheetah we spotted while on the trip.

Africa - Day 10

We spent half a day in Cape Town before our flight back to Jo'burg. Louis left earlier in the morning than we did, so we ladies took a tour of Cape Town on a double decker bus.

This is the entrance to the Castle of Good Hope.

This is the gorgeous Cape Town City Hall.
It was built in 1905 and the clock tower is exactly half the size of London's Big Ben.
On February 11, 1990, Nelson Mandela made his first public speech after release from prison on the balcony.

This is part of a small flower market in downtown Cape Town.

Africa - Day 9

On our second day in Cape Town, we toured the wine country and stopped at 2 wonderful vineyards and drank some really great wine.

I absolutely loved this one! I'm still trying to find it here in Texas :(

Africa - Day 8

Day 8 was the our first day in Cape Town. It was an absolutely wonderful place to visit. Although the water was freezing, there were still quite a few people on the beach. Cape Town is where the Atlantic and Indian Oceans meet, and it's nice to say that I have visited this place :)

After we left the hotel, we took the scenic route back to Pretoria. On the way, we stopped at God's Window. The view was gorgeous and truly deserves the name God's Window. Once again, pictures do not do it justice.

Day 6 was spent at Kruger National Park. We were very lucky to have our guide, Vickers, with us. He would slam on the brakes of the car and back up and start pointing out animals that we never even spotted.

After staying at Dunkheld Estates, we continued our drive to Kruger National Park to see some animals!!

The view from the mountains we had to drive across to get to Kruger.

I don't have any idea what kind of bird this is but it was gorgeous.

Giraffes were everywhere. Zebras were a little more shy while we were there.

They are pretty goofy looking, if you ask me.

Africa - Day 4

Day 4 was a travel day for us. We left Zambia in the afternoon and headed back to Jo'burg.

Before we left Livingston, I grabbed some shots of the river in the morning light.

On our way to the airport, we made a quick stop at the Fire Station. Amanda is a volunteer fire fighter and wanted to take some pictures of a foreign fire station to show her fellow fire fighters.

Africa - Day 3

We spent Day 3 at Victoria Falls.
They were AMAZING!!
No picture ever taken could possibly do this place justice.

These are cell phone towers. Both in Zambia and in South Africa, cell phone towers are disguised as different types of tree. Very neat idea.

These baboons were inside the park at Vic Falls. They would walk right by us and not even notice we were there.

Except for this guy. After taking his picture and continuing our walk to exit the park, he decided he liked Amanda and followed her to the exit gate.

This is the Zambian side of Vic Falls. Unfortunately we were there during the dry season. Normally the entire ridge is covered with Zambezi River which is the river that creates the falls.

This is shows the Zim side of the falls which was flowing.

The mist is called "the smoke that thunders"

And this is Devil's Cataract. There is a small pool out there that sits on the edge of the falls. To get there you have to walk across the river holding onto a rope. None of us were brave enough to go out there, so we just watched and soaked our feet in the Zambezi River. The guy (I called him an idiot) standing on the edge of the falls is looking straight down into the gorge and taking a picture of the view.

On our second day in Africa, we headed back to the airport and took a plane from Jo'burg to Livingston, Zambia. On our first day in Livingston, we relaxed at the lodge and took in a sunset boat ride on the Zambezi River. The sunset was absolutely gorgeous and the stars were just as amazing.

Home Sweet Home....
South Africa was absolutely amazing but I am ever so glad to be home. Two weeks was a little too long for me.
Because I took over 4,000 pictures in those two weeks, I'm going to be making several posts over the next week (or maybe two weeks) documenting the trip and the sights we saw.

This was our first day in Pretoria/Johannesburg.

After a long hard day of picking on the smaller dogs (see previous post with Coco), Sadie likes to curl up on the couch and watch TV with Tyler....

And take a look at the size of those paws!! Trust me when I tell you that it hurts when she steps on your feet with those things....

FYI, I'm leaving on Saturday to take a two week vacation in SOUTH AFRICA!! If the hotels have wireless internet, I'll try to post some pictures while I'm there. If I don't get a chance, keep checking back for what I'm sure will be pictures of gorgeous sights and animals.....

Kevin and Michelle were married earlier this month is a very small and intimate ceremony at Michelle's parents house. The reception followed with more friends, more fun and quite a bit of karaoke!

On May 10, 2008 Lily graduated magna cum laude from Lyon College in Batesville, Arkansas with a Business Administration degree.
She graduated with one of the largest classes in the college's history - 78 people.

Calla Lily's Senior Portraits

Lily will be walking across the stage in May at Lyon College in Batesville, Arkansas. She will be receiving Honors in both the Business society and the Economic society. I'm very proud of my baby sister and I know that she will go on to great things.

Lily & I went out shooting one day while she was in town for Spring Break. We found some really great places and had a lot of fun. By the end of the day, though, we were both exhausted and ready to relax (as you can tell from Lily's expression in one of the pics). All I can say about her is WOW!!!

Texas Family Pictures

Last Saturday, Tyler and I were fortunate enough to have our pictures taken with an amazing photographer... Mrs. Aubrey Newnham. This is the same Aubrey that I tagged along with to shoot her sister's portraits (the previous post).

I love her work and I love everyone of the photos she took. The only problem is picking just one out to put on the family wall at Mom & Dad's!

The State Fair of Texas

Back in October, we got all the kids and grandkids (and then some) together to take a trip to the State Fair. None of the kids had ever been and it had been awhile since most of the adults had gone. We spent too much money, ate too much food and it amounted to almost too much fun.

I realized yesterday that Tyler is almost 3 years old. THREE!!! I can't believe it's been that long. He's gotten so big, so fast. To help me remember him at this age I took this. Yesterday, he feel asleep in my bed and I broke out the camera (suprise, suprise). The only time I can get a picture of him like this is when he's sleeping. I've assigned him a new nickname-

my little energizer bunny.

The Dirt-ball Horses

After three hours of hearing "Poppa I wanna ride the gator," Poppa finally gave in and took Ty to the barn to feed the horses and cats. While riding around the pasture, Poppa discovered that the horses had broken thru part of the fence. Ty came back in and told me that the horses were "dirt-balls" (Poppa's choice of words) and now he and Poppa had to fix the fence. So Ty & Poppa were outside almost all morning fixing things on the property. At one point, Poppa decided to pull the old 730 tractor out to do some other things. This is the first time that I've had the chance to shoot the two of them on this specific tractor (I have plenty of pics of the other three tractors). I have a feeling it won't be too long until Ty is driving the tractors on his own.

Having A Cold One With Poppa

One day last month, Poppa and Ty started mowing the back yard. Half way through the first lap around the backyard, Farmer Joe, our neighbor, and his son, Joey Jr, came over to see if Poppa wanted a beer. Not being one to say no to a beer (which only started after his retirement), he went one more lap, then put up the tractor and pulled out the chairs. Ty, as usual, had to join them with his chocolate milk.

Port Aransas Beach

Greg, Lisa, Abby, Tyler & I recently took a vacation to Port Aransas and San Antonio. With respect to the weather, I ended up planning the trip perfectly (if I do say so myself). We stayed in Port A from Saturday to Tuesday. As we were leaving the hotel, we could see the black clouds of tropical storm Erin starting to come towards the coast. We then stayed in San Antonio until Thursday. We took the kids to Sea World all day Wednesday and we were lucky enough to have cloudy skies so the heat wasn't unbearable. As we were loading up the car to head home, the rain from Erin hit us. We then headed home to Joshua and the rain followed us up 35 and straight into Fort Worth.

These are two of my absolutely favorite pics from the entire trip. At first,Tyler was terrified of the seagulls but once he saw Abby feeding them, he decided he liked them.

I have just received these pictures of my mom & dad, my dad's parents, and my dad's relatives. Just looking thru them made me teary eyed. Because these pictures affected me in this way, I am, now more than ever, determined to enhance my photography skills and abilities. I want to be able to leave things like this behind for my descendants.
